Certificates are provided at the pharmacists’ discretion and within their scope of practice. We are capable of administering certificates for minor ailments that require short term leave from your employment. You may be asked for photo identification and we are under no obligation to provide you with an absence from work certificate when requested.

If your illness or injury is outside our scope of practice, we’ll refer you to a doctor or health care professional that may be able to help you.

What we can’t provide absence from work certificates for…

Since 2009, pharmacists are able to provide absence from work certificates under the Act as legitimate absence from work. We can only offer absence from work certificates for up to two days and only on the day you come into our store for assessment. All certificates are issued at the pharmacists discretion and is under no obligation to provide you with a certificate.

Our absence from work certificates are available to verify your illness or injury, or if family relative or household member has suffered an injury or illness. If you are applying for carer’s leave, the person who is ill must be present. We understand this may be difficult and appreciate your time and effort.

At North Haven Pharmacy, we are only able to provide absence from work certificates for personal leave if your ailment comes under our scope of practice. We are unable to provide certification for compassionate leave, pregnancy, work cover claims or university exams.

If you’re sick or have suffered a minor injury and need to take time off work to recover, get your absence from work certificate from North Haven Pharmacy. No appointment is required, simply pop into our chemist in Camden Haven. Our pharmacist will provide a private consultation to assess your condition. If your illness or injury is outside our ability to assess, we’ll refer you to a recommended doctor or healthcare professional to seek additional assistance.

Why did my pharmacist decline my request? 

We are under no legal obligation to comply with a request for an absence from work certificate. If your condition is outside our ability to assess, we’ll refer you to a doctor or healthcare professional. Alternatively, we may decline your request for the following reasons: 

• If we believe you have been untruthful 
• You are not physically present for the consultation 
• You appear capable of performing your work duties without endangering others 
• Your request is for longer than two days 
• Your request is for obligations or events unrelated to your employment i.e. university exams 
• If you’re a family or staff member of someone in the pharmacy
